Sullust Interception space mission, how to do it?

I barely can shoot down the 60 required ships with some luck, but usually I am shot down. I bought the grade 5 ship equipment, still very hard to do it, despite the quest description suggesting grade 3 items. Am I missing something?

I find that space mission very hard too. What works for me so far (still failing it sometimes):
- ignore bonus objectives
- navigate your spaceship from the keyboard
- do barrel rolls like crazy
- combine your weapons: a rocket followed by a short laser burst (2-3 shots) is enough for your opponents
- shoot in bursts, keep your shields up

after passing the capital ship for the first time right before you hit the grouping of about 18 enemy ships activate both EMP and the increase in blaster power this should allow you to kill about 3/4 of those ships

I usually have 1/4 health left at the end of the mission i do this and it has never failed me
